A typographic editor where weight, grain and colour react to sound. A lab, not a product.
The problem
Typography is often treated as a still image. But a headline can vibrate, breathe, lose weight. I wanted to see what happens when sound becomes a design parameter.
The approach
I built a small instrument: a wave goes in, a text comes out. Frequency, amplitude and attack modify the type in real time. There is no right result, only a result that can be heard.
The system
Web Audio for analysis, Canvas for drawing and light shaders for grain. The font stays Geist, because the contrast between a neutral typeface and unpredictable behaviour is the interesting part.
What remains
A different way of listening to design. Halftone won't solve a business problem, but it taught me to treat motion as a property of text, not an add-on.
